My Graduate Proposal I

I had a Graduate Proposal in December,2010. I had prepared it for five months and i spent a lot of time on it. Let me tell everyone how did i prepare my proposal and what rule you have to understand.

At first, you have to think the theme or issue which is you want to study and research.At that time, you also have the meetings with your professor unceasingly until you have the target apparently. The theme which is you choose is very significantly. Because you have to convince all people and let people know your theme is valuable.

Second, you have to search a lot of paper and reference for your literature discussion (some people call chapter 2). To understand how reference did you want and what main study is your critical discussion. You could consult others paper which are also the same field. Watch out, don't copy others papers on your paper. You must study and order it before write your literature discussion.

After you finished Chapter 2, you have to talk about how did you study and how will you do in Chapter 3. It is the core in the paper. For instance, I will reform the website which had earned the award before and the new website will be used by 100 people. In this process, it is experimentation.

Finally, when you finish your chapter1, 2 and 3, you should check your paper again and again. finding your mistake in it and correct your mistake until there is no wrong in your paper. If you already check it down and the professor also agree you can export it. Congratulation, you have finished your proposal paper and you will rehearse your oral proposal for committees.

We have not seen the animation film for many ages. Today, I woul like to recommend a film that mad by Taiwaness. The film is talk about Taiwan traduational life and Taiwan envernmont.

The film's background is in Tainan because there is a traduational place and symbolize of taiwan field. Maybe you should go there and enjoy the nature life. Unfortunlty, more and more field and nature attraction are being destoried. Many peole, like the boy in this film very worry about those destruction. The factories and industries occupied those beautiful view and field. Many young children had no idea and even had no power to against them.

Beside the story and background. In my opinion, the animation's type are attractable. The diector used the similar 2d type and doesnt not lose the 3d animatino's vivid and amusing. The layout and comera are too perspicuous to difficult. It is pretty good for many people if they like animation film.

Finally, if your very like or want to understand the taiwan. Yuo must watch this film and even search about the director who made this film. It is different with wasten films because it talk about taiwan industry's impact film.

Taiwan Life

If you have a travel in Taiwan, I can talk about many interesting things in Taiwan. Taiwan is well know for Taiwan snack. But watch out on the road, the traffic in Taiwan also a specular situtation you also have't seen before.

Taiwan food is very popular in many country. You can find many night markets on the corner and see specular food that you have not eaten them before. For instance, stinky dofu is very popular food in Taiwan. Maybe you can't stand the aura. But you should try it the diferent food and it not very awful after you eat. Taiwan drink is famous for the pearl milk tea. You must drink it because you can not find it any area except Taiwan. You will like it!

After the night market, you might be surprised the traffic jam and many many scooter on the road. These scooter jusk like the wild horses and they presper running very crazy. Don't worry that, the traffic is a common situation in Taiwan.
You could clam down your mind and view the Taiwan's sky and crowd when you have the heavy traffic.

Finally, if you are interested in Taiwan food and want to jouning it. Why do yo plant your travel now and you experience it by yourself. It will be better than you have not come before.

workshop from 28 June to 9 July

In 28 June, I very luck because I participated a workshop in National Yunlin University of Science a& Technology. My four friends with me taked the train for taipei to younlin. We enrolled my data and take our baggage to dormitory. There were thirty students participated this workshop and they came from different universities.

what did we do in this workshop? In fact, it was about animation workshop. the sponsor invited four animators who came from Pixer, Disney or blue sky. Some students went to foreign universities by this workshop evey year. The thirty students had to compete each other period from 28 June to 9 July. The four foreign animators can teached me some of skill and we had assignments in this time.

Beside this workshop score, English score also very important. If students did not have a good score. they did not enroll foreign universities successfully and it only seven person were allowed in every year. In fact, It is exchange students, not any diploma. But if you were selected by many competition. You can enrolled foreign university and it is free because it is pay by government.

To sum up, many students wanted to join it because they wanted to study to foreign university one year. The workshop score, English score and works were equal importance.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup, soccer is a popular sport and it take many people joyfulness and entertainmen.I not only talk about the FIFA contest, but also introduce the mascot that is the symblism of the FIFA. His name is Zakumi.

The character has a green hair as like the football field. The mascot is a africa leopard, he can run very fast jusk like the soccer players run in the football field. His name is "Zakumi." The "ZA" is mean south africa or we can say it is abbreviation. The "kumi," the word for "ten" in servral African languages and this year also is 2010. So his name is appropriate for both the location and the year. And a important thing for this mascot, Zakumi was born in 1994. The apartheid was ended the same year. It is very important and symblic for South Africa people.

The mascot can take many funny and the world cup also take many expection in the world. In fact, Chile, the county in South American, there was a huge earthquake in Chile in 2010. The earthquake killed five hunderd people. The residents in Chile want to their soccer term win every contest. Because the soccer can take many joyfulness and entertainmen.

The mascot or the soccer, there are also have many nations and coutures in FIFA. Zakumi's story or soccer's signification for countries. but we konwn the soccer is common entertainmen for every one.

Today, I introduce a funny short film. The film was maked by my friend and it is her graduate work in the summar, in 2009. It is a good short film and the story is very good. As title, "HEEHA," the word is a sound and cowboy is symblio of sound. Cowboy, bar and western town usually come to mind when we hear "HEEHA."

At first, the film's story is talking about a cowbay walk in a bar. And there is a tense situation in the bar. every person want to fire and all persons are very nervous. however, many huge knife attack the cowboy from the sky. The cowboy do not konw why many hug knife attack him. The scene change suddenly and a girl is playing her toy. Finally, the toy who is the cowboy and the cowboy putted out his hair by the girl.

The layouts and characters are very good in this film. Let audiences guess the end of the story and the cowboy is a toy. The characters' design also exquisit.

Will We Have a Second Pixar In Taiwan!?

In 1994, the first 3D animation movie presented in Unite State. At first, many people were not this movie have best sticket sale even the boss, Steve Jobs also wanted to sale he company to Microsofe. But he was not. The first 3D animation movi was successful, it is Toy Story 1th.

Without a dubet, The successful company is Pixar. In the word, many company also want to become the second Pixar. Many professionals forecast the second one will be situated in Chinese area. China or Taiwan? In fact, this only a forecast. But we convince a thing, no hard no grain.

We have to the first thing is imitation. It is not shameful to imitate other's works. In the imitation processing, we can learn many techinque and understand what stlye and story set a animation fashion at different period.

The second, we have to create the new character and new story. We not always to follow other's footsteps. But a good idea is not easy. We could cooperate with forgien company or even have a joint venture. For example, George Lucas has Taiwan CG company's stocks. he also have a cooperation with Taiwan. Star war series are successful case.

To sum up, no matter when the second Pixar will be situated in the world. A company will be a second Pixar need many try and expensive. From imitation to creative, we shourld make hard continuouly.

This short film use Dominoes and simple layout. It want to encourage people to become activists for environmental change. Only a little event can also change all the World.

At first, The color only have black and white. Many people are living in the monotone society. Many people think about the common thing and they want to destroy the environment. "What can I do?" It is a improtment informatin because the question change the story.

However, one man send their message and many message are just like a domino effect from this area to other area. The domino pass many environment saboteurs and animation throughout all the worldwide. The ending slogan is " Make A Different". This sentence respond to the first question. Everybody can make different thing and even chang a huge event. We can also say a simple act also be a super hero.

Although this short film is only a ad, but this film is a wonderful animation. The soundtrack is lovely,too. They did it all in just over three weeks.

Disney VS Dream Work

From May to August during the summer. Here's some of what eager moviegoers can expect to see movie. Toy Story 3 and Shrek 4 are the two main animation movies. They are made by Disney and Dream Work. Many people expect the two movies specifically.

Disney company is a old and huge animation company. Before decade, many people liked to see many 2d fairy-tale animation film. Disney animation is many people memory. Now, they not only have 2d movie but also have many 3d movie. Toy Story series are Disney main works and Disney first try to made 3D movies and very successful.

2010 YOUNG DESLGNERS' EXHIBITION

I went to the 2010 YOUNG DESLGNERS' EXHIBITION and it hold from 21.May to 24. May. Many students usually show their works that spent a lot of theri time in the period of their senior life and dedicate to their sleeping.

Thorse students are come from different univerity in Taiwan, while they are also design students. The exhibition is contain animation, industrial disign, cisual design and multimedia design...etc.

In fact, they have to spent a lot of money on stage or ground,decoration, publicity and printing due to this is a young deslgners' exhibition annually. For those students, the exhibition is a deslongers' target in Taiwan.in addition, this action can appeal to people and expect to have many communication and interaction or even increase the range of visibility.

Although it hold very huge, it have many events can be improve. The exhibition place was crowed with people just like traditional market. The common publicity and no bells and whistles at each action. If they have a lot of interaction opportunitys with foreign university. After all, we are not limited to Taiwan students' designs.

3D Technique Mapping

3D technique is very popular this year. After the movie, Avatar, the director use new 3D technique. In many people opinion, Avatar is a 3D technique milestone and change many visual screen. The 3D Ppojection mapping also want to attract many people by 3D technique.

In this film, it have mapping project on the building. It look not different with other projection system. But the mapping is animating on the building and just like the real material on the building and it like have spirit.

In fact, people have been researched the 3D projection mapping for decade. But people apply those technique in many area: such as animations, movies, media...etc.

At last time, we only saw about 3D animation film. But today, let's us see a funny film and make by clay. In fact, any resource can make animation film.

Sometimes, people usually call that is stop motion. We usually use camera and photograph those clay characters and ground step by step. For instence, two characters hold a pose and take a photo at that time.

After, we a bit of turn characters pose and also take it. We make it continuously and we can get many successive photo.In fact, the rule is traditional animation processing principle.

Next, I like its action because each charater is lifelike immensely. If you notice some detail like food and the chatacters' face. It is very vivid. Such as two chef cook food just like jelly elasticity and cute.

In fact, I do not want to discuss the film's story. Because it is not important for me. Today, our focus on action and source. Althought some people minght question the story which it is very ordinary; However, we must not measure it with only story because source and skill.

A Comparison of Two Posters

The left and right posters describe disaster stories. They also talk about the cities which are destroyed by the disaster. Leading character usually is a nobody in the two stories. The left poster talks about floods, Noah's Ark and prediction. The right poster, on the other hand, talks about volcano, explosion and magma.

The first different is color and layout. In the left one, the color is blue and it uses wide scene, but the right one is red and only focus a city. The left poster layout have flood, tsunami, and earthquake, therefore the color is blue and the symbolize ending or despair. But the another one, the red usually symbolize angry and violent. The volcano burst magma and looks like very violent in this picture.

In addition, we compare the two stories. It also has the same point on two scenes. For instance, 2012 is a flood story and many people are afraid of the end of world in all areas. People are just like many small ant and they feel quite helpless. Only a little of people who have privilege can avoid this big flood. In contrast, people are also scared of the disaster and might die after several volcanic eruptions, but many townsmen are led to a place of safely.

To sum up, the two posters’ ending are not different. One ending is flood all over the world and only some people are rescued. Other ending, many people are safely. But they are equally interesting.

Last month, we saw the 2010 Winter Olympic's animation ad film. Now, let's us see another funny animation film "Quest". This animation film are celebrated by FIFA World Cup. Brazil usually come to mind when we think of soccer. FIFA World Cup have been hold eighteen World Cup.

The Brazil soccer term have been into the final qualification for eighteen consecutive word cup and won the championship five times. The soccer is a very important sport for Brazil.

The animation short film that I like motion and huge ground. The characters in this film are vey active. I think it is the symbol of one. At first, the children are playing the soccer and the ground change very quickly. More and more characters appear in the football field gradually.

In this film, children, adolescent, adult and even big rock man are very happy and vitality. For the animation film, the motion decide that animation's good or bad and this film use the motion successfully even if the robot or rock man also have spirit just like alive people.

Although this short film is a coke bussiness film. But a good animation film is not limited in creative film or award film. However, let's us enjoy with FIFA World Cup and and encourage all football terms.

The team contain two animator and three apprentices. When I was an apprentice in Star TV company, I also joined the team that made this short film. In my apprenticeship,

I learned many about animation experience. Its like shoot a film and synthesize film. For me, its very important experience.

The 2010 winter Olympics were hold in Canada. In fact, I am not enteresting in it. Why do I want to mention the 2010 winter Olympics? Because one day I saw a funny short ad animation and it is a 3D animation.

This year's Olympic symbol is based on an inukshuk. An inukshuk were native people in Canada and they were construct their village together. I think this animation structurs eventually came to represent teamwork, friendship and hope and these are Olympic spirit.

The short animation describe five player pull rope hardly and Five player's face, race and culture are different. They combine five continents gradually and five contients become a original huge contient.In fact, the Olympic's LOGO is five difficult color cricles originally. I think this animation conform the original Olympic spirit.

MRT creative animation contest

My short animation not have aaward in MRT creative animation contest at March. But my friends and I were surprise many not very well animation were selected. Not only my friends and I but also many people doubted injustice that the MRT creative animation contest.

There have thirty animations were selected but actually have nine animations' author were classmates and they only Sophomore. The first animation' auhor also studied the same collage with another eight students.

Their teacher even said their collage have no fame in Taiwam so they only want promote their collage's fame by many contests. This event happended many coincidences that mnay people not doubt the contest was injustice.

Some people criticized judge have no professional ability. The news also reported this event. But MRT company and judge only saied thay will improve at next time. Many people were very angly and said they have no sincerity for this event.

After this event bursted, many people already have no faith in official contest that goverment hold. But I don't give up my mind and participated many contests even if MRT creative animation contest minght not a impartial contest.

Happy Buddha's Birthday II

For the Buddha's birthday contest, I spent five days to made my animation short film hardly. I even went to taipei main post office and sent it at the deadline. I was afraid that my thing not sent to the destination Successfully, so I checked it on the Internet.

Fortunately, when the list was putted on the Internet. I was so happy because I see my name also have on the list on the Internet. I got a second in this contest and ten Thousand NT dollar reward. My animation even pose on their homepage.

Happy Buddha's Birthday I

I participated in the contest sponsored by Chinese Buddha's High Young Adult in March. Chinese Buddha's High Young Adult held a design contest to celebrate Buddha's birthday.

The Buddha's birthday contest's item contain Creative Goods, Graphic Card and Animation short film. Without a doubt, I chose short animation because I have not confidence for my paint skill.

I spent one day construct my story, layout and characters. At first, My story is Buddha's life that distribute Buddha was born in India and he was a prince. He had a wealthy family when he was a child so he didn't know what is poor life, disease and died until he went to village. He started his ascetic life and became respectable Buddha.

Furthermore, I designed the characters. I collected some of about Buddha characters and refered to before awared works. I desided my style is cute characters. I think the cute characters is smooth-faced and mass people embrace cute and simple style.

Next, I use simple layout and simple action because I think the contest is serious and formal activity for Chinese Buddha's High Young Adult. Although creative and funny is important for a animation but some have to consider what is the subject and theme. I chose conservative way to show my short animation.

To sum up, the layout and color are also very important for a animation film. Although your story and characters are vey well. If the final film's layout and color is very ugly and inharmonious. The film also not a good film. After this contest I understand that making a film have to step by step.

Last weekend, I saw a short film on the Internet.It is very cool. This short film's contain have many charcters' element is pixel.It is just like its name. It is made by a studio and this studio is OneMoreProduction.Patrick Jean wrote scenario and directed it.Matias Boucard was this film's graphic director.

This film described that the 8-bit monsters attacked New York. Every thing would become 8-bit pixel if they were attacked. Finaly, the world in the film became 8-bit pixel and the earth didn't run away from this disaster. The earth became "a cube".

I Forget to Make It

Last month,i promiseed my friend to make a short animation for her. But i forget to make it because I am very busy on my report this month. The animation deadline is on 17,May. I have about 2 weeks to make it but i have any no idea.

This short animation is the activity which sponsors for five universities jointly. The activity is a movie exhibition activity annually and for them it is very important. But i actually have not to make until today.Eventually, I have to make it now!

Qualities of A Good Animator

3D computer animation film is a new film than other and 3D computer animation film is becoming a popular film. How do become a good animator? There are three qualities of how an animator sould do.

First, familiar with related graphic software’s is very important. However, using many specialized graphic software’s for animators is only basic techniques. If they only use those software, they are not use it very well on their work. The software is only a general tool, not their helper.

In addition, communications for animators is very important. Animators are not basic technicians. Good animators should have a good communication skill and good application. A big animation company has many staff, teams and different departments. If they do not understand communicate how to with other people, it is very difficult to cooperate with other people. Then, that could be very hard to adapt them in this condition.

The third quality is to have full devotion and interest in animation. In the animation industry. The work usually drains their devotion and health. For example, an animation film must division of many different sectors like modeling, lighting and characters' texture...etc. The company distributes animators into different sectors and they just like a huge assemble line. For animators, they work same action every day and long-time working hour in company.

To sum up, although animation artists have hard work, all the effort will be worthy animators see their animations broadcast on TVs or movies. It is also an art for animators because they communicate their concept via computer animation.

creative animation contest

Last month, I participated a creative animation contest by MRT company. This contest demand is use any tools make a thirty second animation and the animation content show about relate with MRT safely and MRT rule.

They selected thirty animation works and selected the best one by vote. I think it is very funny contest, so I spent four days to make this animation for the contest. Unfortunately for me, my animation is not nominated.

My animaton's character is a little egg and my animation works describe a little mischievous egg in mrt station. He amused hisself by sliding down the banister of escalator and he roll into the mrt car. It is very dangerous act. I want to use very funny story and showing the dangerous act. I think judge's anticipation are the format story.








As a result of this contest. I would need many good ideas for my works and thing about judge's anticipation.

who is Chia-chi Chen

Chia-chi Chen is currently a graduate student in the School of Multimedia & Animation Art, National Taiwan University of Arts. In the school, he majors¬¬ in 3D Computer Animation, New Media Art, and Experiment Animation. He was born in HisnChu. When he was 18, he went to Taipei and took some of the art course in the university. In 2009, he once publish of his graduate works in College of Humanities of Tamkang University, May, 2009,

His computer skills include Maya, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, and Premiere . In Creative Digital Media Lab of Tamkang University, he worked as a student-assistant for almost three years. In 2008, he even made the 3D animation and some singer’s MV with his colleagues in the Creative Department of Star TV. For Chia-chi Chen, the 3d animation not only a film but it is a bridge between information and people.
